Cricket Victoria Player Pathway

CRICKET VICTORIA’S UNDERAGE PLAYER PATHWAY

In 2023, following a year-long consultation with key stakeholders, Cricket Victoria made significant changes to the underage player pathway which streamlines the journey from junior cricket to the state’s representative squads.

Academies have been developed in country regions and at each of the Victorian Premier Cricket clubs for Under 15 (female) and Under 16 (male) age groups.

Each of these academies will lead to squads being selected to compete in the Country Cup (Male & Female), Marg Jennings Cup (Female) and Dowling Shield (Male) competitions.

A Premier Under 18 competition has also been established for both males and females to further align the pathway with the state’s highest level of club competition.

How does the updated Player Pathway work?

This video explains the journey from junior cricket and the stages to progress through to professional cricket through the FTE Model.

The player journey starts in the Foundation stage from as early as five years old participating in Woolworths Cricket Blast at a local junior cricket club.

The Talent phase is where the CV Cricket Performance department will closely work with players and coaches, especially in their participants formative teenage years as they progress through representative competitions through to senior Premier Cricket.

The last stage of the pathway model is the Elite phase – this is when the highest performing players reach professional cricket, this includes selection in Victorian state squads or Second XI teams as well as opportunities that may arise with W/BBL clubs.

It’s important to note that players can enter and exit the pathway at any point, the pathway isn’t linear and may be a different experience for all players.
